LET IT RAIN - the debut album, out APRIL 14th 2008.
'Let It Rain' is something very different from the latest batch of Girls With Guitars - produced by Dave Armstrong (whose previous credits include Back Door Slam, Christine Collister & Truman Falls) it's a record packed with immediate but lingering songs, brought to life by a skill for creative lyricism and subtle references to Anna's stunning operatic abilities. It's an album that runs the gamet of styles from rock to blues to jazz, peppered with samples and loops that inject a truly eclectic sound, all held together by Anna's stellar vocal delivery.
Album opener 'Older Than My Years' is an epic track, as Anna's powerful operatic voice soars above the trip-hop influenced production creating a perfect blend between the classical and contemporary; 'Horoscope' and 'Fall From Grace' wouldn't be out of place on a Zach Braff soundtrack, with layers of harmonies cushioning a sweet vocal and bringing the life affirming lyrics to the fore; while the darker, caustic sentiments in 'Poison' and 'Tenfold' show her ability to dramatise lyrics and express lyrical depth with arresting ease; on 'Don't Wait Up', 'You Slayed All My Monsters' and 'Metaphor', Anna's rich, velvet tones are complemented by stripped back, subtle arrangements on piano & guitar; and on songs like 'Let It Rain' and 'Madeleine', (the latter inspired by elusive French songstress Madeleine Peyroux), her varied range of influences come to the fore.
Anna Goldsmith has been singing since before she was born (well, almost). Classically trained from a very early age, she has the superb control and vocal quality that such a dedication to the art brings; but in the past year, everything has changed for Anna...
She has shifted from a background of entertaining Royalty with opera style precision, to using all of that talent (and more) to bring her own, very contemporary songs to an eager audience.
Since she started gigging her own material, she has been reaching out to a rapidly growing fanbase with a live performance that comes straight from the heart. Touching on a range of influences (from classical artists Sumi Jo and Beryn Terfyl, to contemporary acts Massive Attack and Zero 7), and making excellent use of her hard-earned keyboard skills, she blends a stunning vocal range and control with a warmth that grabs the coldest heart.
Her talent was rewarded by her gaining the support slot for Triskel Promotions sold out Katie Melua gig; and the same talent is now being captured on disc - with debut album 'Let It Rain' (see above) and previously with Anna's debut CD, The Horoscope EP, which is also available on Stereoscout Records (see below) .
